A hot water bottle, a cotton organic menstrual panty, and a meditation session: my good menstrual routine
Slowing down, listening to yourself, taking care of your body and your mind—your period phase in the menstrual cycle can be all at once intense, stressful, tiring, depressing or even painful. A good menstrual routine tailored to your needs is essential to help you better experience this very special time of the month and of your menstrual cycle.
What do we mean by menstrual routine? Having your period is a completely natural phenomenon that women have experienced since the dawn of time, but certain habits and gestures can help relieve menstrual symptoms and make you feel better in your skin and in your body as a woman.
Good intimate hygiene, a short workout, and good, long-lasting period protection (organic cotton period underwear with certified cotton) can make a real difference.
The Jade style is one of our customers’ favorites. For very heavy menstrual flow, the Jade menstrual panty is made of Oeko‑Tex organic cotton 95% and has a wider gusset than other styles to prevent any leaks if any.
Some essential accessories for a serene period
Hot water bottle
This is our number-one must-have! A hot water bottle works little miracles when period pain becomes particularly sharp and intense! Today, many shops and stores offer the classic hot water bottles (the most common and well-known). They give off intense, deeply relaxing warmth. Wrapped in a fleece or fluffy cover, they often have a cozy, cocooning look. The downside? Handling very hot water can be dangerous.
To avoid any unfortunate mishaps, you can always turn to dry hot water bottles. They come in different shapes and materials. They’re filled with wheat, rice or cherry pits. Pop them in the microwave for a few minutes and you’re good to go!
Finally, there are also electric hot water bottles, which have the advantage of being autonomous. Once charged, you can turn them on whenever you want. They require no handling or preparation time.
Heat relaxes the contracted muscles in the pelvic area. A hot water bottle placed on the lower belly or even on the back is a great ally for all teens and women on their period.
A relaxing herbal tea
A hot drink—ideally an herbal tea made from plants with relaxing properties (like chamomile)—helps you better cope with those difficult hours or days of bleeding.
Avoid energy drinks with caffeine and theine, which are not recommended. The goal is to calm down and relax without further straining already tense muscles.
In organic shops or pharmacies, you can easily find **special period blends** made with chamomile, raspberry leaf, valerian or sage. You can also just go for your favorite herbal tea—the goal is to treat and comfort yourself.
The Lucie panty has everything going for it: thin, black, elegant, soft, comfortable and organic! It’s perfect for a normal flow.
An oil to soothe pain
Finally, to relieve the most intense menstrual pain, contractions and cramps, a vegetable oil for massaging the lower abdomen is ideal. Mix a few drops of essential oil into your favorite carrier oil yourself. Otherwise, you can always find ready-made solutions online or at the pharmacy!
Essential oils of ylang-ylang, fine lavender or tarragon are the most commonly used against period pain. You can mix them with borage vegetable oil, known for its hormone-regulating properties. Borage is a small purple flower. You can massage yourself with this oil, but also consume the flower as an infusion or in capsule form.
Another option is evening primrose oil, known for easing uterine pain. Be careful though: it’s not recommended for people with epilepsy.
Meditation and gentle exercise during your period
Taking time for yourself, slowing down, meditating during your period—it’s important to be patient with your body and to pamper it. We’ve already talked here about the benefits of exercising during your period.
Physical activity releases endorphins that ease pain and also help you feel good. However, doing sport is sometimes really impossible for some women. Very heavy periods can leave the body exhausted. Meditation in all its forms (breathing exercises, sophrology, etc.) helps you relax, de-stress and release tension. Gentle yoga or beginner Pilates are also excellent options to get your body moving a little and chase away negativity.
