A menstrual cup for daytime use
Being active all day, moving around, running, working out, going to class or work with your menstrual cup—it’s totally doable.
Using a cup to collect your period
This small reservoir made of medical-grade silicone (zero chemicals or toxins, only medical-grade silicone) holds your period blood optimally. Placed at the entrance of the vagina, against the walls, the cup doesn’t let anything through. Teens and active women alike can use it without any issue. The cup, or menstrual cup, above all offers a much-appreciated freedom of movement. It’s hygienic, practical, and comfortable. It’s especially a game-changer for athletes, especially swimmers! Yes, the cup is a perfect substitute for disposable tampons.
A menstrual cup for daytime use
At Louloucup, we recommend using the cup during the day. In fact, we suggest wearing the menstrual cup for no more than 4 to 6 hours at a time. That means it’s not suitable for overnight use. At bedtime, we recommend switching to period underwear. You can learn more about our amazing period panties further down in the article.
Why only 4 to 6 hours? For two reasons:
- you need to empty the cup regularly, of course,
- Then, just like with tampons—which need to be changed regularly—you should empty and wash your cup to avoid any risk of toxic shock syndrome. This rare but serious condition can occur if blood is left sitting for too long. To learn more about this syndrome, check out these two articles: What to know about toxic shock syndrome and Is menstrual cup use risky?.

Which style will you fall for?
- The Loulou Rose: classic, soft, and slightly firm.
- or the Loulou Turquoise, which is softer but just as gentle.

Both of our menstrual cup models are available in two sizes, Small or Medium. This way, we cater to all women, all body types, and all sensitivities.
Overnight period underwear
At night, take out the cup, empty it, rinse it, and let it dry. For a peaceful and comfortable night, we highly recommend switching to period underwear. Why? Because these menstrual undies produce zero waste, are durable, washable, and—most importantly—extremely reliable!
How does period underwear work?
There’s nothing complicated about it. Menstrual underwear, or period panties, have a super-absorbent membrane sewn into the crotch. Depending on the style, this membrane (also called a pad) covers more or less surface area. It can extend high up the front and back of the underwear.
This layer has a high absorption capacity without shifting or swelling. It can hold menstrual blood without becoming saturated. Often, as with Louloucup, period panties are categorized by flow level: light, normal, medium-heavy, or very heavy.
To give you a concrete example, our heavy flow period panties can absorb as much as 5 regular tampons. With these, there’s no risk of leaks!
How can I be sure my period underwear won't leak at night?
At night, you stay lying down. Whether you’re on your back or stomach, you’ll be in the same position for a long time. Blood will tend to flow in the same direction. You need to be sure of your period protection to avoid any stains on your pajamas or even your sheets!
As mentioned earlier, we highly recommend using period underwear with a wide absorbent layer to handle any situation, especially if you have heavy or very heavy periods. It’s a great alternative to sanitary pads.
