The backpacker and adventurer needs to be prepared!

A 10-hour flight? A bus trip to the other side of the world or a long cruise lasting several days? The key is to plan ahead! And even if your period isn’t due exactly during your trip, prepare anyway! You never know, and you really don’t want to find yourself without any period protection in the middle of nowhere.

With the stress and anticipation of travelling, it’s no surprise your period might be a bit disrupted. It may arrive a little earlier or a little later than expected.

Menstrual underwear for long trips

To leave no waste behind, the menstrual panty or period panty is particularly practical and very handy when travelling.

Depending on your destination country, plan your period protection accordingly. Keep in mind that hygiene standards and access to clean running water, trash cans, or toilets may not be as easy as they are at home.

✤ What problems can occur during the follicular phase?

You stay dry all day, you don’t generate any waste, and above all you’re comfortable when traveling. You avoid thick disposable pads or tampons that dry out your vagina.

If your periods are particularly heavy, don’t hesitate to switch to heavy-flow or very heavy-flow underwear such as Clara, Fanny, Mathilde or Jade. These period panties can absorb the equivalent of four to five tampons.

A few tips for globe-trotters

Depending on where you’re going, remember to pack your intimate hygiene products, a gentle neutral-pH cleanser, and some essentials like spare tissues. Hand sanitizers (gels or sprays) are also a must to disinfect your hands before removing your menstrual cup, for example. Finally, don’t forget anything you usually use to ease period pain, if you’re unlucky enough to suffer from it.

Be aware, however, that you may need a prescription if you’re flying with certain painkillers. Check beforehand! To avoid using panty liners, which are polluting and not very practical when travelling, remember to pack one or more light-flow menstrual panties in your suitcase. That way you’ll stay nice and dry at the end of your period but also during ovulation, for example (white discharge).

Menstrual swimwear or a menstrual cup for swimming

The ideal protection for doing laps in the pool? The Noa, Manon, Juliette, Laura menstrual swimsuits or our Loulou menstrual cup!

The menstrual swimsuit revolutionizes swimming for all women. In one piece (Noa) or as a bottom to pair with the top of your choice (Laura, Manon, Juliette), our period swimsuits are elegant, timeless, and above all very effective. Ideal for light to normal flows, they optimally retain menstrual blood.

Do you have a fairly heavy, substantial menstrual flow? Then a menstrual cup is perfect for swimming with total freedom. This internal, invisible, washable period product is very reliable. Once the cup is placed in the vagina, it doesn’t move, even during physical activity. You can swim and move around freely, without overthinking it or feeling anxious.

At Louloucup, there are two sizes: small and medium. In recent years, the menstrual cup has established itself as a very effective, reliable and truly practical period protection.

Swimsuit or cup, both options are much healthier than disposable tampons. You quickly forget you’re wearing either of them. Super comfortable, they become true holiday allies.

A few final tips

          • Take it easy! Even if you’re very well protected thanks to your swimsuit, underwear, or cup, that doesn’t mean you won’t feel tired for a few days. These days can be demanding on your body, especially in hot weather. So don’t stop living your life, but do listen to your body and allow yourself time to rest. It’s important to recharge your batteries.
          • Keep hydrating, again and again. Heat + periods are hard on your body. Water, fruit‑infused water, homemade iced tea, lemonade – treat yourself. Drinking enough water helps prevent water retention. On the other hand, avoid sugar and alcohol.
          • Choose comfortable outfits that aren’t tight, that let you move freely and feel good—especially for trips or road journeys (by bus, car, plane, boat, etc.).
          • Take care of yourself. Give your tummy a massage, have a bath if you can. Water really helps relieve painful periods, so don’t hesitate to dive in.
          • We take time for ourselves, alone or with our partner. Having your period is not synonymous with sexual abstinence. It's a natural stress reliever and painkiller, so don't deprive yourself!

Getting your period on vacation is really not a big deal, especially with our Loulou products.

Have a wonderful summer! 😎
